Session Introduction

“During the rest of the session, I’ll be working from a script to ensure that my instructions to everyone who participates in the study are the same. “

“The purpose of this test is to learn about how users experience the online car buying process at driveyourdream.com. I am not testing you, rather the designers of the site, how well have THEY done their job and how THEY can improve the site.”

“During the session, I will give you 3 goals and will observe you while you execute them. As you do these things, please try to do whatever you would normally do. Please explore the site naturally and as close to realistically as possible, keeping in mind the goals we have tasked you with.”

“To help me better understand how you are experiencing the site, please think out lout. I want to know when something is confusing, doesn't make sense, is frustrating or is particularly enjoyable, helpful or cool. Just tell me whatever is going through your mind.”

“My role is to observe your interaction with the site. I can help to clarify any questions you have about the testing process, but I am not here to help you figure out the site. I want to know where the road blocks are and how you handle them so that a better site can be designed.”

“By the way, I had nothing to do with the design of the site you’re about to try out. So please be honest in your feedback – I need to know exactly what you think, not what you think I want to hear. “

“Do you have any questions before we begin?" [Answer any questions]

Task Matrix

"Great. Let’s get started."

"For the session today, I’d like you to imagine that your car is in the shop and although you are getting it back at the end of the week, you’ve been spending too much money on repairs and it’s time to buy a new one. Although you are free to purchase any type of car, try to keep the purchase reasonably realistic. If it’s too far out of your normal purchasing pattern I will not get an accurate assessment of your ‘actual’ usage of the site."

"When the process begins you will first be prompted to answer a few questions. You will be prompted again 1 more time during the session and 1 more time at the end. The whole test will take about 40 minutes, plus about 10 minutes to discuss your experience at the end of the test."

Task #1 Home Page Review

Time: 5 min Start at: http://driveyourdream.zag.com/

“The first thing I need from you is your initial reactions to the home page. So when we begin spend a few minutes with it. Feel free to click on any buttons, but this is not the time to explore the site, just the home page. When you are complete in your assessment of the home page, let me know. You will be prompted to answer a few brief questions and we can discuss any reactions you might have.”

  • Start the recording, mark the beginning of the task.
  • “Close the introductory screen and begin.”
  • >>
  • Send the Home Page Survey
  • Mark the end of the task

Task #2 Purchasing a New/Used Car

Time: 20 min Start at: http://driveyourdream.zag.com/

“Now I need you to go through the car buying process for a new/used car. You will have a maximum of 20 minutes to complete this goal. When you are complete, or time has run out, we will take a brief pause to discuss any burning comments or questions you may have and then move on to the car buying process for a new/used car. Do you have any questions?”

“Please begin.”

  • Mark the beginning of the task
  • >>
  • Mark the end of the task

Task #3 Purchasing a New/Used Car

Time: 15 min Let the user determine where to start from the certificate page

“Now I need you to go through the car buying process for a new/used car. You will have a maximum of 15 minutes to complete this last goal. When you are complete or time has run out we will complete the test. You will be prompted to answer a few brief questions, and then we will take about 10 minutes to debrief. Do you have any questions?”

“Please begin.”

  • Mark the beginning of the task.
